Owned housing programs are housing units that are owned by the Housing Authority and the Housing Authority is your landlord. The Housing Choice Voucher program, formerly known as Section 8, is a voucher where you would rent from a private landlord. Owned housing programs are more selective, checking the tenant’s rental history, credit history, etc. Qualifying for the Housing Choice Voucher program is based on income, Provo Residency and household status (family, elderly, or disabled households qualify) and not rental history. To apply, please come into our office and fill out our applications. We will need Social Security cards for all members of your household. We are open Monday through Thursday 7am-6pm. Thank-you!

Thank you for your questions about Provo Housing. We have two basic programs through our agency: Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher. With Public Housing, the Housing Authority would be your landlord. We have duplexes, four-plexes and townhomes that are at scattered sites around the city of Provo.
The Housing Choice Voucher program is a program where you would rent from a landlord, and a portion of your rent would be subsidized by the Housing Authority. With both programs you would pay 30% of your gross adjusted income towards rent.
Both Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher programs have a Provo resident priority. This means we give a priority to households who currently live or work in the city of Provo. With the Housing Choice Voucher program, non-Provo residents will never get to the top of the waiting list because there are enough qualified Provo residents who apply for the waiting list. Non-Provo residents can qualify for Public Housing, but only after we have exhausted our waiting list of current Provo residents.
If you would like to apply for either or both of our programs, you would need to come into our office and fill out our applications. To take your application, we will need readable copies of each Social Security Card for each member of your household.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at either contact@provohousing.org or 801-852-7080.
